Zuma and Gungubele condemn toddler killings

Both President Jacob Zuma and Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mondli Gungubele have condemned the killing of two toddlers who were killed in Katlehong on Wednesday October 16.

ZONKESIZWE – South African Broadcasting Coorperation (SABC) reported, “Two toddlers have been found dead in an open field in Zonkezizwe, Katlehong.”

The bodies of the toddlers were found lying next to their mother, who was in a bad health condition and that she had to be immediately hospitalized.

Gungubele said, “On Tuesday October 15, the country woke up to news of similar nature in Diepsloot. Before we can even recover from that, we now have to deal with a similar traumatic incident in our own backyard.”

President Zuma was shocked and dismayed by the recent ‘cruel death’ of children in Diepsloot and Katlehong. He said, “These gruesome incidents of extreme torture and murder of our children do not belong to the society that we are continuously striving to build together.

“We condemn these murders in the strongest possible terms. While we appeal to the communities not to take the matters into their hands, we also want to urge them to work with law enforcement authorities to find the perpetrators and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”

Gungubele has thanked the community of Zonkizizwe for not taking the law into their hands. The mother of the two children who is still in hospital was arrested and is believed to be the primary suspect.
