Reminder – SOJO’s Christmas in July dinner dance

Make a difference to a child's life and come and support SOJO's Christmas in July dinner dance. It promises to be full of fun and laughter.

CALISTOS – It is that time of the year again when SOJO hosts its Christmas in July function. This year it will be held at Calisto’s Restaurant on Saturday July 25, 18:30 for 19:00, with tickets at R220 per person.

“We are excited to invite you to our annual Christmas in July function and hope you will be joining us in our drive to warm the hearts of our less fortunate children in the South of Johannesburg. Our focus is to make a difference in the lives of our future generation who are being deprived of the most basic and fundamental life skills. Our wish is to equip them with an educational toy, which undoubtedly will fill the gap from childbirth to five years of age, recognised as the foundation for early development and learning.

“This year the event has a three-fold benefit whilst still keeping the focus on the children. We have outsourced a company called Upcycle who will be providing the toys for the evening. Their motto is ‘giving junk a second chance’, in other words they will be making educational toys out of waste. This concept supports the council’s educational drive to turn trash into treasure for a cleaner environment. It will also create job opportunities for those designing the product and ultimately provide a child with an educational toy.

“SOJO has chosen Cotlands as the beneficiary who have opened toy libraries all around the country. Their purpose is to reach the mother or caregiver responsible for the child from birth till school readiness age. They feel that the early developmental stage in a child’s life is missed because there is no form of stimulation at such early age. Through their toy libraries, they will be teaching the mother or caregiver how to play with their child or children while education takes place.

“We encourage you to purchase your educational handmade toy on the evening instead of supporting toy shops. Toys will cost between R50 to R150 and there is a wide selection to choose from. For more details on the event please email us on info@sojo.co.za or call 011 493 7880, you may place your order early or buy on the evening. “We look forward to a fun and heart-warming evening,” said Nicky Vakaloudis, CEO of SOJO.
