Polyroads forced to fix Alrode potholes

Frustrated Polyroads is tired of waiting for the council to fix the potholes in Alrode South and have started doing it themselves.

ALBERTON- On the corner of Coppel and Stadler streets, in Alrode South, Polyroads are filling a big pothole, next a big hole they fixed yesterday.

This afternoon they will fill the third one and then cover the area with slurry.

“Waiting for the council is frustrating and taking too long,” says CEO Nick Muller.

“We are doing it for ourselves and the community.”

”They combine polymers and bitumen to create a tough, but more flexible road surface, that can withstand heavy traffic.

Nick shows me the source of the water that runs down Rivett Carnac to Bosworth South.

It is a 2m deep hole filled with billowing green algae. The hole has clearly been there for a very long time and part of the reason why the corner of Bosworth South and Rivett Carnac is now an undulating pothole.

Polyroads, a company in Alrode South, says they will fix the Bosworth corner potholes, but only after the council has fixed the water leak.

On a positive note, the water department visited the open drain on May 6, and requested that the hole be drained and fixed so that the road can dry out.

The roads department contractors have started repairs in Alrode and Alrode South and, last Thursday, the potholes in Flamink Street were fixed. Some streets, such as Bosworth South and Langkloof, will be completely overhauled.
