AfriForum and EMM meet to resolve some problems

CIVIL rights organisation AfriForum met with role players from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, recently, to discuss problems facing Alberton.
On September 22, Stephen Nowatha, manager of the CMR (Christelike Maatskaplike Raad), and his team from the Ekurhuleni Municipality, met with AfriForum to discuss problems and possible solutions for Alberton.
The first project has been identified and will take place in October
“We plan to stop the illegal activities taking place on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter Street and Pieter Uys Avenue, followed by the planting of 20 trees,” says Willie van Wyk, chairman of the AfriForum branch in Alberton.

“We met with AfriForum, to discuss issues affecting urban management at the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Pieter Uys streets, where people are fixing their cars on the pavement, and we agreed to attend to that,” says Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
”We plan to clean the open spaces, with the assistance of the EMPD, to remove those cars and maintain the area and to stop the illegal fixing of cars there..
”The Ekurhuleni Metro parks division will assist in fencing the area with small bollards, to help prevent this problem.”
