Hijackers arrested in Palm Ridge

Four alleged hijackers were arrested on Mantombaze Street in Palm Ridge.

Three members of the Ekurhuleni Flying Squad arrested four alleged hijackers along Mantombaze Street in Palm Ridge on June 20.

Sgt Victor Mphaphuli, Const Sizwe Sibeko and Const Tiyane Mabaso responded to information received regarding a hijacking that occurred on the night of June 19.

The officers spotted the suspects matching the description given to them and stopped the vehicle they were travelling in on Mantombazane Street. The suspects were found in possession of two unlicensed firearms and the car radio and wheel caps that were allegedly stripped from the hijacked vehicle.

They were arrested and the victim of the hijacking positively confirmed the identity of his assailants. The four, aged between 32 and 42, were charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of stolen property.

The acting unit commander, Capt Joshua Hlope, thanked the members for actively working towards protecting the citizens of South Africa and bringing the perpetrators to justice. He also thanked the community for providing them with positive information.
