Five hundred and nine drivers were arrested for drinking and driving over the long weekend from September 24 to 27 in the City of Ekurhuleni.
EMPD precinct officers from the southern, northern and eastern regions, including the Social Crime Prevention Units with Specialised Services, conducted several roving and static drunken driving roadblocks over the long weekend.
According to EMPD’s spokesperson, Kobeli Mokheseng, this will be an ongoing operation.
Officers arrested 386 in the southern region which is Alberton, Boksburg, north and south of Germiston, Thokoza, Vosloorus and Zonkizizwe.
In the eastern region 54 drivers were arrested and 69 in the northern region. All the arrestees appeared in the respective magistrate’s courts.
