Champere wants to walk normally again

Funds are being raised for Champere Brits (37)

The family of Champere Brits are raising funds for him so that he can undergo a hip replacement to be able to walk normally.

He has a condition called Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease.

Champere does not have any medical aid and has to put down R186 000 to undergo the operation at Life Faerie Glen Hospital.

Walking with pain

His condition started when he was only six-months-old and his parents could not afford an operation.

“I am 37-years-old today and I still walk with pain every day,” said Champere.

Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease is when there is a misfit between one’s femoral head (ball) and acetabulum (socket) that causes hip degeneration. The only way to treat this is with a hip replacement.

“My disease has affected me a lot. I live with constant pain and sometimes my left leg will just give in and it will cause me to fall,” he said.

Need donations

His partner, Ydelette de Roubiax, opened a BackaBuddy page to help raise funds for him.

“Any donation will help. Even though Champere walks with pain daily you will never hear him complain. He is a very humble man and very hard working, but due to his disease it made things difficult as the pain sometimes prevents him from working,” said Ydelette.

Those who want to help him can donate money via his BackaBuddy page
