Unitrans confirms 2 employees involved in fatal R59 south off-ramp and Nelson Mandela intersection

The latest update comes after ER24 confirmed that crash victims were taken to several medical facilities across Gauteng, while an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision continues.

Alrode-based company Unitrans has confirmed that two of its employees were involved in the fatal crash at the R59 south off-ramp and Nelson Mandela intersection in Alberton on May 19.

The collision, involving two light bakkies, claimed one life and left six injured.

In an official statement issued to the publication, the company said: “We can confirm that two of Unitrans’ employees were unfortunately involved in an accident at the Nelson Mandela intersection. The accident is being investigated, and we can therefore not provide comments at this stage.”

The statement follows earlier confirmation from ER24 that victims from the crash were transported to four different hospitals for further medical treatment.

According to ER24 Johannesburg South branch manager Faheem Essop, one patient was transported to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, three to Germiston Hospital, one to Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital and one to Netcare Alberton Hospital.
