Law enforcers curb crime in Alberton streets

A joint law enforcement venture yielded success during the Okae Molao operation conducted on March 25 in Heidelberg Road, New Market.

Members of the Ekurhuleni District SAPS joined hands with the Gauteng Traffic Police and EMPD.

They were also joined by the Vehicle Identification and Safeguarding (VIS) Unit in fighting crime in the streets of Alberton. The team conducted roadblocks and crime-prevention patrols.

According to Capt Manare Ramotshela of Alberton SAPS, the operation was led by Brig Fredl Jonck and Brig Thembeka Gwabushe.

“Our neighbouring station sent members for the operation, VIS also assisted our members and managed to impound two vehicles. One of the vehicles is suspected to have been tampered with the original chassis number,” he said.

They arrested at least 17 alleged illegal immigrants, while six suspects were arrested for allegedly dealing in illegal narcotics that included dagga, Mandrax and nyaope.

“We had 1 343 people searched and 443 motor vehicles reached. From the two vehicles impounded, one was taken to the police storage for further investigation. The suspects will soon appear in the local court of law,” said Ramotshela.
