WATCH: Buses lost to fire in Alrode South
According to Cornelius, the police do not suspect foul play at this stage.
Six Putco buses caught fire at a business in Alrode South on April 11.
Mechanics working on the buses at a company in Alrode South reportedly left for lunch around 12.30pm, leaving the gate to the premises locked. When they returned at around 12.50pm they found a security officer outside the gate and noticed smoke coming from inside the yard.
After opening the yard, they saw that the buses were on fire.
In total, nine buses were affected by the blaze. The fire brigade arrived and contained the flames. Three of the buses could be saved but six were burnt out.
According to WO Gerhard Cornelius, spokesperson for Brackendowns SAPS, a case has been opened and investigation started. According to him, the police do not suspect foul play at this stage.
