According to the Vispol commander Lt-Col Robert Makopo, they have noted a trend in hijackings where perpetrators target those living outside the area.
Perpetrators are said to pretentiously be broken down and then park on the side of the road where they then hijack those offering to help.
Capt Manare Ramotshela of Alberton SAPS also warned motorists to avoid stopping on major routes as these hijackings are reported to often occur at such locations.
“People came to the station alleging they were stopped on the N3 while urinating, and the suspects used the opportunity to hijack them,” he said.
Ramotshela said should anyone have any information regarding such crimes, they can contact Alberton SAPS 011 861 6800 or Brackendowns SAPS 011 617 5600.
