Mckenzie needs prayers

The life of Mckenzie van Loggerenberg (6) changed drastically on May 10 when she was rushed to the Union Hospital after having seizures.
Her parents are separated and she lives with her mother and grandmother in Brackenhurst.
The RECORD published an article about her on May 26.
In the meantime, things have changed and Mckenzie’s father, Shawn, and stepmom, Maxine, said they have everything financially under control. All McKenzie needs now is the power of prayer.
Shawn appointed Clint Swartz as the family’s spokesperson, and the RECORD recently visited him to find out more.

Life changes in the blink of an eye
Clint said when Mckenzie arrived at the hospital it was established there is bleeding and swelling on her brain. Due to this, doctors could not make a diagnosis.
Mckenzie was transferred to Garden City Clinic and on May 24 doctors broke the news to her parents.
After a MRI and CT scan doctors saw she had a stroke which affected her right brain, causing paralysis on the right side of her body. She also has a brain aneurysm.
According to Clint, she has been in an induced coma since. Mckenzie was born a healthy girl and did not have any health issues.
Her father is working overtime to make sure they can cover all medical costs, and he also makes sure to visit her every day.
“It breaks my heart to see this little girl in such a state with all the machines and IVs,” said Clint.

Operation day
On May 26 Mckenzie underwent major surgery to her brain.
“According to her doctor, it was a difficult operation and due to the severe brain swelling, a part of her skull could not be replaced.
“She was given blood transfusions and is in a critical condition. She has again been put in an induced coma. She is fighting for her life at the moment,” Clint explained.

In need of prayer
Clint said the family does not need anything now except for prayer.
“For now, financially everything is under control and if needed we will ask for help.

“Mckenzie is this little sunshine girl who’s smile lit up anyone’s day. She was so full of life and friendly. She is a fighter, but she needs prayer. She needs some help from above to fight this,” said Clint.
