Alberton High goes the extra mile in striving for good performance

With exams fast approaching, Alberton High School has implemented programmes to assist its learners to do well.

Alberton High School principal Jannie Olivier has commended his teachers’ dedication and is adamant that the school’s top learners will do well in their exams.

The school started its academic year on a high note despite challenges as a result of the pandemic. Programmes such as interventions were implemented as a means to maintain good results.

According to Olivier, they taught online through social media and had morning interventions, which gave them extra time with learners.

“We have our top 10, a way of praising our top learners. By doing so we are encouraging them to continue working harder. I have had interviews with parents whose children are struggling a bit and we try to support those learners as much as we can,” he said.

He said dedicated teachers who are willing to walk the extra mile are a big deal to them.

“I’m bragging with my staff because they are very competent people who are prepared to walk an extra mile. This is also because there’s a good relationship between teachers and learners, which makes it a winning recipe. We are a proud school of academics, especially for the last few years,” said Olivier.

Olivier reiterated that this was a difficult year for Grade 12s, especially since there’s a change in their curriculum.

He also told the RECORD they pride themselves on discipline, which makes the school stand out.
