Kimura Judo Alberton athletes returned from the Gauteng Open with four medals following a successful tournament at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein.

Kimura Judo Alberton coach Zander Woest and Khalen Tylor Lewis secured gold medals, while Khalen’s brother, Channing Taylor Lewis, and Jack Cloete brought home bronze medals.

Coaches praise competitive performance

The club described the event as a good day of competition, with its athletes putting their training into practice against tough opposition.

Head coach Monty Kalil said he was impressed with the athletes’ performances and that the results reflected positively on the Kimura Judo name.

Kalil said he remained committed to helping develop athletes and to training the next generation of champions.

“Consistency is key and what matters is to show up,” said Kalil.

Training sessions open to new members. The club continues to encourage young athletes interested in learning judo to get involved and develop their skills through regular training sessions.

Kimura Judo Alberton trains every Monday and Wednesday at the Alberton Wrestling Club.

The junior class runs from 17:30 to 18:30, followed by the senior class from 18:30 to 19:30.
