Alberton SAPS stop and search leads to arrest

During the search, unlicensed firearm and unlawful ammunition were found in the suspect's possession.

A 34-year-old male suspect is expected to make a court appearance after he was arrested in possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful ammunition.

While conducting a stop and search in the Alberton area on Sunday, August 23, members of the Alberton SAPS came across a white motor vehicle with three occupants.

The officers stopped to search them.

“One of the suspects was found to be in possession of a firearm and eight ammunition,” said Captain Manare Ramotshela, spokesperson for Alberton SAPS.

“The police requested the permission or licence of the firearm but the suspect failed to provide it or give a valid reason for having the firearm,” he said.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Alberton SAPS for further investigation.

Captain Ramotshela added that the management of the station would like the community to work hard in hand with the police.

“Give information on whatever criminal activities in the area of Alberton SAPS by contacting the station on 011 861 6800.”
