Locals join hands to curb scourge of crime

Different stakeholders gathered for a community safety meeting held in New Redruth to combat crime.

Community members and various stakeholders hosted a community safety meeting on October 26 in New Redruth.

This is after numerous reports of increased crime, from break-ins to stealing of electrical fuses and metal and bronze plaques being stolen on a continuous basis.

Over the past months, residents of Alberante, Raceview, Randhart and Alberton central areas have been the victim of such crimes.

This is according to Ward 106 committee member and councillor candidate Tim Denny, who said the meeting, was aimed at looking at ways to combat crime.

“The meeting was a great success and community members agreed to join up and increase patrolling in the area so as to fight crime. The community approached local community leader Samantha Goncalves and I and we in-turn arranged a meeting with the local CPF,” said Denny.

CPF chairperson Rowen Maree led the meeting and commended local security and the community for their support towards combating crime.

They also committed to conducting further meetings monthly in their fight against crime.
