WATCH: Residents protest at Crown Gardens reservoir
Residents of Grown Gardens, Robertsham, Chrisville and Gillview came together on Saturday morning at the Crown Garden reservoir to protest about their current water situation in the areas.
Residents have been without water since Monday, November 15 when Rand Water started to do maintenance on the pipeline feeding to Johannesburg Water.
Counsellor of ward 54, Stuart Marais, said “the reduction started on Monday morning but by Wednesday morning the towers and reservoir started to dry up. This affects multiple areas and is causing disruptions.”

The residents were up in arms and busy threatening with a tax revolt against the City of Johannesburg.
The request was made by multiple residents for officials in the government to also come and address them about the crisis.
A spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, Eleanor Mavimbela, said “The Johannesburg Water systems affected by the Rand Water planned interruption have recovered by 80% and we expect a full recovery soon as the system continues to build up capacity. Pumping from the Rand Water Eikenhof pump station is at full capacity of 1200 Megalitres since midday yesterday.”

Mavimbela further said “Alternate water supply is focused on the Hursthill and other critical supply zones that have been negatively impacted. We are urging customers to continue to reduce consumption in order to prevent further strain on the system. Reduced consumption is assisting in the recovery period. “
