WATCH: Alberton experiences spot flooding

Alberton experienced heavy rains on November 25.

The rains resulted in spot flooding of several roads and buildings throughout Alberton.

Areas that experienced flooding included Toon van der Heever Street, the Ring Roads, Voortrekker Street, Glen Alban Street and several others.

“We were knee-deep in water and up all night cleaning and trying to get the water out of our house,” said Mariki Berning, who lives in Toon van den Heever Street in Randhart where many houses were damaged by the flooding.

“Our neighbours have been a blessing. This whole street is a unit; we all came together and helped out. A lot of neighbours’ houses have suffered damage,” she said.

The flood has caused walls to collapse and flooded houses where people have to replace a lot of electronics, furniture, and electricity connections in their houses. The flooding also damaged a number of roads.

Stepping Stone Hospice CEO Tersia Burger said that their in-patient unit was also flooded, but they received great support for which they are grateful.

“We used every towel and blanket we can find to stem the water flow. Sister Margi was administering medication barefoot! Thank you for keeping our patients safe and comforted during this storm,” said Tersia.
