Support the EPIC Foundation to earn community service hours

This is how you can earn community service hours with the EPIC Foundation.

Those learners looking for a charity to support or what to do for their community hours are welcome to show their support to the EPIC Foundation.

The Epic Foundation, an NPO with a vision to empower victims of rape and abuse, can always do with more helping hands. If you’re looking to make a positive impact in the community or to earn community service hours there’s a wide variety of ways to support the foundation.

Epic Foundation was founded in 2013 by Alta McMaster.

After having experienced various traumas in her own life, Alta now has a deep understanding of how lonely and helpless one can feel if no one reaches out to help.

This understanding encouraged her to be that helping hand, through assisting and empowering survivors of trauma.

“Today, there are so many ways in which you can help this organisation and it does not have to be with money,” said Alta.

Alta shared how learners can earn community hours:

• Making notebooks

Get an hour of community service and be awarded for every five notebooks supplied. Use any creative idea from the internet and make up small notebooks for their Comfort Packs. Notebooks must be A5 or smaller with about 10 pages

• Comfort packs for adults

Three community hours are awarded for putting together a complete comfort pack. The comfort pack includes bottled water, deodorant, a face cloth, a hair comb or brush, hair elastics, hair clips, lip balm, underwear, Vaseline, sanitary towels, shampoo, soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, sweets, tissues, a notebook and a pen.

• Comfort packs for children

Donating a complete comfort pack for children equals three hours of community service. Items needed are bottled water or a cooldrink, a brown paper bag, a soft toy, surgical gloves, chips or a snack, colouring book with crayons, wet wipes, plasters, deodorant, a face cloth, lip balm, underwear, Vaseline, soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, sweets, tissues, a notebook and a pen.

• Individual packs

One to two hours awarded depending on the number of individual packs supplied. Place in a ziplock bag any of the following item combinations for inclusion in their comfort packs; two hair elastics and two hair clips, a set of surgical gloves, four plasters and a paper bag, six individually wrapped sweets, six colouring pages and four crayons or a pair of underwear with the size written on the pack in permanent marker.

• Donations

Donations of any of the items needed in the comfort packs are welcome and community hours will be based on the size of the donation.
