Alberton rugby dominates the field
Lifestyle Alberton Rugby Club won four out of five games against Wanderers
Lifestyle Alberton Rugby Club took on Wanderers Rugby Club in Alberton on March 26.
The matches were originally scheduled to take place at Wanderers but due to a waterlogged playing field, the games were moved to Alberton.
Lifestyle Alberton proved themselves a force to be reckoned with, with the u-19s winning 17-0, the u-21s winning 47-17 and the third 15 winning 10-0. The second 15 lost to Wanderers 15-17 in a very closely matched game.
The highlight of the Eland XV taking on the Wanderers’ first team was threatened by lighting in the area, but by just after 16:00 the players took to the field in the rain for a tough match.
Alberton crossed the try line in the first half taking the lead but the Wanderers kept the match close by scoring strategic points with the boot.
Late into the match, the teams were in striking range of each other at 10-9 for the home side with no one able to make clear headway through the majority of the match.

With mere minutes to go the Eland team started a decisive movement, got past the Wanderers’ defensive line and Justin Liebenberg crashed over the line between the posts to secure the final score of 17-9.
Lifestyle Alberton Rugby club was ecstatic about the results. The entire pavilion celebrated with the Eland XV as they delivered their winning war cry.
“I am extremely proud of the performance the boys put up,” said Danie Putter, chairperson of the Lifestyle Alberton Rugby Club.
“You did not only the club but the whole of Alberton proud.”
