Police warn public not to commit perjury

Polise say you will be arrested if you open a false case.

Crime Intelligence members of SAPS Booysens detected a hijacking case that was opened at Booysens Police Station which is linked to another case.

The members reportedly noticed that the allegedly stolen vehicle is also linked to another case. It was decided that the complainant and girlfriend in the hijacking case should be re-interviewed.

Further investigation revealed that the complainant falsely reported a case of hijacking as it never took place.
The complainant and his girlfriend were arrested for perjury.

The station commander of SAPS Booysens, Brig Hennie Jones, views the opening of false cases in a serious light.

“A lot of time goes into the investigation of cases, which should ultimately lead to successful arrests. If it is found that a community member has opened a false case, they will be arrested for perjury. Opening a false case means lying under oath and this is punishable by law,” said Jones.
