Alberton Civic Centre’s services claimed to deteriorate to appalling state

The large conferencing venue, Alberton Civic Centre, is labelled as unhygienic and disgusting compared to previous years.

Government and community facility Alberton Civic Centre has gone from being a 100% rated facility to 0%.

This is according to an Alberton resident who slammed the centre’s customer service and service delivery, describing it as appalling.

The complainant expressed that she was concerned that everything at this facility had changed drastically from the previous years.

“I’m one of the customers of Alberton who used to be very proud of hiring or using the facility for any of my events. Their facility was the best and the cleanest in the southern region. Everything about Alberton’s halls used to be spotless, the floors, toilets, their kitchen and mostly their dedicated employees who had a warm welcome,” she said.

According to the complainant, there was always a warm welcome whenever a customer visited the facility and the employees’ priority was customer and service delivery.

She said floors are now in a terrible state, unclean and sticky, while toilets have an unbearable stench and that there is no one to assist with any kind of cleaning.

The large conferencing venue was labelled as unhygienic and disgusting.

City of Ekurhuleni’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the cleaning of the hall has since been brought to the attention of the senior manager responsible for the customer care centres.

“The hall is being cleaned by permanent staff cleaners appointed through the City’s Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture Department. The civic centre building is being cleaned by the service provider appointed and managed by the Real Estate Department,” he said.

Dlamini assured that floors and the ablution facilities are being cleaned, however, the surfaces require deep cleaning, which has not been applied due to budgetary constraints.

“We have sat down with the service provider to see what other means we can apply to ensure that the floors are maintained to an acceptable level of cleanliness. The deep cleaning will be once-off assistance and thereafter they will apply a normal cleaning process going forward,” he said.

He explained that these are public areas as they are frequented by the community daily and in high numbers.
