Possible harmful waste spotted in Alberton North
Ward 37 Clr Ivan Naidoo condemns any form of illegal dumping following the discovery of medical waste at the corner Middel Street and Parklands Lane.
A couple of minutes walk away from a local school, possible hazardous waste was spotted at the corner of Middel Street and Parklands Lane in Alberton North.
Piles of drip bags were spotted by community members, dumped behind a mini substation.
These medical-grade plastic bags are used to carry fluids from the bag into the bloodstream. These fluids can be infused with vitamins, nutrients, medications or other treatments to address health issues.
Ward 37 Clr Ivan Naidoo had escalated this to the relevant departments after first learning about it on October 10.
“One of the residents posted about this in the groups, and I sent it to the EMPD and the city’s departments.
Seeing that it is used medical bags, I will get the environmental department to clear this up. Companies need tolearn that we can’t dump medical waste in a residential area and close to a school,” he said.
Naidoo condemned illegal dumping in the community and reiterated that he aims to restore the ward to what it originally was.
