Looking back on 150 years
The Melville Koppies is not just a well-maintained green lung in the middle of the city. It also holds historical treasures dating back thousands and thousands of years.
You can only discover them if you visit on Sundays between 08:00 and 11:30.
One of the information boards describing the past 150 years has just been renewed. Describing the turmoil in the land north of the Vaal River at that time, it also describes how the Geldenhuys family bought the Melville Koppies, hoping to find gold on it.
Visit the Melville Koppies to find out more. You can self-guide or join a guided tour at 08:00 to glean more.
Challenge yourself on the 5km trail (twice, if you’re up to it), or meander at your own pace along the many paths. Suitable for all ages.
