WATCH: JRA replaces over 20 traffic lights

Councillor urged all the residents to report any vandalism and theft of traffic lights.

Traffic lights in areas like Regents Park, Elandspark and surrounding have been subjected to theft and vandalism.

Ward 57 Councillor Faeeza Chame said she is very pleased with Johannesburg Road Agency because they replaced over 20 traffic lights in the ward.

“Most of the traffic lights were not working due to vandalism and theft. Also, the new modus operandi that I see happening is that they turn the traffic lights to face the wrong way for the vehicles to cause accidents. This is just cruel.

“When traffic lights are not working we find that the motorists are causing more accidents or pedestrians are being knocked over by vehicles. I want to urge the residents to be vigilant and report such crimes. We are all responsible to protect our infrastructure,” she said.
