Brackenhurst duo to represent Alberton at historic National Women’s Day race

Bruce van Niekerk and Donna Kloppers will fly the flag for Alberton at Zwartkops Raceway on 9 August, with Donna set to make history in South Africa’s first ladies-only single-seater race.

As round four of the Historic Inland Tour gears up at Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria on August 9, Alberton will be represented by Brackenhurst racers Bruce van Niekerk and Donna Kloppers.

With Meyersdal’s Rob van Aarle and Brackendowns’ Blane de Meillion unavailable due to prior commitments, all eyes will be on Bruce and Donna as they take to the track on National Women’s Day.

Bruce, a seasoned driver, will compete in the Formula Libre event in his Future 3 Concepts Omega ’91 Formula Vee. He currently leads both his class and the overall Libre championship and will be aiming for another strong result to maintain his advantage.

In a show of teamwork and history-making spirit, Bruce will hand over the same Future 3 Concepts Omega ’91 to Donna for the inaugural Formula Monoposto Ladies-Only Race.

This race marks a historic moment in South African motorsport, as it will be the country’s first-ever open-wheeler single-seater race exclusively for women.

“Considering that it is my first-ever race, I’m going to quote the legendary Petro Krige and say, ‘What an awesome amazing scary lekker feeling. Wow,’” said Donna.

“I am tremendously honoured that Bruce van Niekerk is willing to lend me his car. This is history in the making, and I’m super proud to be part of this internationally sanctioned event.”

Bruce added: “I am honoured to assist Donna in taking part in this race. She puts her heart and soul into supporting our Formula Libre club and Team Omega. This is a small way we can recognise and appreciate the effort that Donna and so many other women in motorsport contribute to making our sport a success.”

Spectators are invited to join the action at Zwartkops Raceway on 9 August for a family-friendly day featuring high-octane racing, historic cars, and a celebration of women’s growing role in motorsport.
