Armed robbers arrested in Alberton

Schoolchildren must be extra vigilant when walking to and from school.

In a swift response to a distress call, CPS Security successfully apprehended four suspects involved in an armed robbery on Radio Road, Alberton North.

CPS Security received a report from a client indicating that four unidentified men armed with what appeared to be a firearm confronted one of their employees.

With a detailed clothing description from the client, CPS Security’s officers swiftly circulated the information and saturated the area. Within minutes, all four suspects were located and apprehended.

“Upon inspection, the suspects were found in possession of a toy firearm and stolen cellphones, believed to have been robbed from schoolchildren on Kritzinger Road earlier that morning,” said Tyrone van der Merwe, CPS’ sales director.

The EMPD were notified and helped transport the suspects to the Alberton SAPS. They face charges of two counts of armed robbery and one of attempted armed robbery.

Van der Merwe urges learners to be extra vigilant when walking to and from school. He emphasized the vulnerability associated with displaying cellphones in public because doing so attracts unwanted attention.

Furthermore, he highlighted a concerning increase in crime at night and advised residents to ensure their alarm systems work. He recommended servicing alarm systems regularly and promptly replacing the batteries to enhance overall security measures in the community.
