Brackendowns SAPS nab alleged police impersonators
Brackendowns SAPS has welcomed the arrest of alleged police impersonators who were busted along the R59 highway.
Three suspects were arrested for impersonating a police officer and unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, on January 30.
On Tuesday morning, Brackendowns SAPS Sergeant Riaan Venter was driving along R59 highway when he noticed a grey BMW.
He noticed that every time the vehicle came close to other vehicles travelling on the R59, the driver would switch on his blue lights.
Venter then switched on his blue lights while driving a state vehicle and pulled the BMW over.
“Three occupants were inside and Venter asked them to step out of the vehicle. He found firearms in their possession, four 9mm pistols and an AK 47. He called for backup and the vehicle was thoroughly searched. A shotgun was also found. The vehicle that was used belonged to a car rental company,” explained Brackendowns SAPS Sergeant Lindile Moloi.
The suspects were apprehended and taken to the station for detention. All items were booked for evidence. They will soon appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
