Scammer arrested at shopping centre in Brackenhurst

Scammer apprehended after targeting elderly lady at shopping centre

Quick response by CPS Security officers at a local shopping centre on Hennie Alberts Street in Brackenhurst helped foil a scamming attempt on an elderly lady.

Three unidentified men attempted to trick the victim out of R3 600. However, vigilant security officers sprang into action, requesting urgent assistance.

The suspects, realising their scam had been exposed, attempted to flee on foot. Despite their efforts, one suspect was successfully apprehended by the security team.

EMPD’s Community Liaison Unit (CLU) assisted with arresting the suspect and transporting him to Brackendowns police station where he was charged with theft.

Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and cautious, especially when approached by unknown individuals in public spaces. For emergencies or to report suspicious behaviour, contact CPS Security at 011 024 2426.
