Trio nabbed for possession of essential infrastructure in Alberton
The three suspects, who pretended to be Ekurhuleni employees, were found at the entrance of the EMPD store.
On July 16, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Anti-Cable Theft Task Team in conjunction with other stakeholders, arrested three male suspects who are between the ages of 36 and 37, for possession of essential infrastructure and theft in Alberton.
Responding to a complaint from one of the stakeholders, about cable theft in progress at the EMPD stores, situated on Swartkoppies Road.
Officers made a turn and upon arrival on the scene, three suspects were found at the EMPD store entrance.
According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, they pretended to be Ekurhuleni employees.
“The suspects were attempting to leave the vicinity in a white MAN truck, with a drum of rolled electrical cable. The trio were arrested and taken to the Alberton police station,” she said.
The offenders face charges of possession of essential infrastructure and theft. They are expected to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
