Three car thieves were arrested today after a stolen Toyota Fortuner was tracked to a residential property in Alberton.
The suspects had been reported to have stolen the vehicle in Benoni before making their way to Alberton, where they began stripping it to disable the tracking device.
The incident unfolded after Tracker South Africa’s monitoring system picked up a signal from the stolen vehicle, which was quickly passed on to law enforcement.
According to the sales director of CPS Security, Tyrone Van Der Merwe, the tracker response team, in collaboration with the EMPD’s Community Liaison Unit and SAPS, traced the vehicle’s location to a private home in Alberton.

Tyrone said that upon arriving at the property, authorities discovered the suspects actively stripping the vehicle to remove the tracking device. The suspects, caught red-handed, were apprehended on the spot.

In addition to the stolen vehicle, a military-grade jammer was seized from the scene.

The three suspects were immediately arrested and transported to Alberton SAPS, where they are being held for further investigation and processing.
