CPS Security recovers hijacked truck, tracks down scammer, and foils house break-in

A hijacking, a scam and a theft were all tackled in one day by CPS Security using tech, teamwork and rapid response.

CPS Security demonstrated efficiency and commitment to community safety by successfully handling three separate incidents reported on July 22, including a truck recovery, the arrest of a scam suspect and the apprehension of a theft suspect in Brackenhurst.

Hijacked truck recovered on R59 highway

A truck was hijacked near the Xavier off-ramp while the driver was still inside.

CPS Security’s tactical team responded promptly after receiving a tracker signal and pursued the vehicle.

Once the suspects came to a halt, they discovered the truck had already been offloaded.

The driver was robbed of his personal belongings and later dropped off in Alberton.

The driver was found unharmed and the vehicle was recovered by CPS Security.

Scammer tracked down through LPR system

CPS reported that its CPS license plate recognition system played a key role in tracking down a woman who scammed a business by requesting a fraudulent card machine refund.

After reviewing CCTV footage and identifying the suspect’s number plate, the information was circulated through the LPR network.

The vehicle was spotted entering the Kroonstad area, where local highway patrol officers intercepted and arrested her.

Theft incident in Brackenhurst

In a separate incident on Lilly Street in Brackenhurst, CPS Security’s control room was contacted by a client who noticed their post box cover had been stolen during the early hours of the morning.

A team patrolled the area extensively and spotted a possible suspect on foot. The man was stopped, searched, and found in possession of several stolen post box covers.

Brackendowns SAPS were contacted and the suspect was dealt with accordingly.

According to CPS, this type of theft has become a common trend in the area, and residents are advised to ensure their post box covers are mounted securely.
