WATCH: Alberton killer-couple sentencing date set after pair found guilty
Werner Jack Schoeman and Delichia Bekker were found guilty over the death of 75-year-old Susan Gillian Murray and the theft of three vehicles.
The case against the Alberton killer couple, Werner Jack Schoeman and Delichia Bekker, returned to the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on October 30.
Schoeman and Bekker have been found guilty of murder and theft. Bekker was convicted for her involvement in the death of her mother, Susan Gillian Murray.
After almost three years of court processes and trial, the pair were convicted on all counts.
In November 2023, an elderly Murray’s severely decomposed body was found dumped in a veld near Radio Road in Alberton North.
At the time of her death, Murray lived on Oribi Street in Verwoerdpark. Schoeman and Bekker were charged and subsequently convicted for the killing and the theft of three vehicles from the deceased’s property.
Police recovered all three vehicles around the time of the arrests.
Sentencing date set:
The matter has been adjourned until December 1 for sentencing.
The Alberton Record understands that the state will conclude its pre-sentence and victim impact report by the time sentencing is handed down.
The report is used during the sentencing phase of a criminal trial to help the presiding officer decide on an appropriate sentence. Schoeman and Bekker remain in custody.
