“As we walked into the bush, I noticed a pile of stones on top of a green tent. It seemed as if the stones were barring the tent from moving. After moving the stones and cutting open the tent, paramedics found the decomposing body of a white female inside. The deceased was wearing a black and white top, a pink dress, and no shoes,” reads the affidavit.

“She was an unknown person. Upon investigation, I noticed there was blood on the deceased person’s head. It appeared she had a head wound. Her hands were tied behind her back. It appeared she had been murdered, buried in the bush, and her body covered with stones, a tent, and a blue sheet. The Germiston mortuary collected the deceased,” read the affidavit marked exhibit E.

The day’s proceedings mostly focused on the State prosecutor reading affidavits into the record, medical reports, and other documents to mark them as exhibits. Exhibits are documents, objects, or other items presented in court as evidence.

These exhibits are formally introduced during a trial or hearing, and are subject to the rules of evidence to provide information or support to the court.

The trial continues on September 16.
