City officers arrest 6 motorists in Germiston speed operation

The EMPD cracked down on reckless driving in Germiston, warning that speedsters will be arrested and prosecuted.

EMPD High Speed Unit officers arrested six motorists in a speed enforcement operation on Rand Airport Road, where the speed limit is 70km/h, in Germiston, on October 15.

The operation is part of the CoE’s Transport Month activities to promote road safety. Speeding is a primary contributing factor to road fatalities in the city.

Officers stopped a BMW motorbike, a Suzuki, two Hyundais, a Mercedes-Benz and a Renault that they recorded at various high speeds, the highest being 164km\h.

Officers detained the six motorists at the Germiston Police Station and charged them in terms of the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 for exceeding the speed limit.

The EMPD urges motorists to always obey speed limits, as speeding could result in prosecution.
