WATCH: Alberton murder-accused duo in court, State wants man in prison to testify

The unidentified witness is understood to be held at the Boksburg Prison on separate charges, and the State wants him to testify against the accused.

The case against the Alberton murder-accused duo, Werner Jack Schoeman (accused one) and Delichia Bekker (accused two), returned to the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on January 19.

The pair is accused of involvement in the murder of Susan Gillian Murray, who lived in Verwoerdpark at the time of her death and was found dumped in Alberton North in November 2023.

Schoeman and Bekker face charges including murder, fraud, and theft. Bekker, Murray’s daughter, is accused of involvement in her mother’s death and was arrested days before Schoeman, who was caught hiding in South Hills.

At the January 19 hearing, the court heard that the State had scheduled the testimony of a witness who would give evidence on its behalf.

The unidentified witness is understood to be held at the Boksburg Prison on separate charges, and the State wants him to testify against the accused. However, the witness did not testify, as he was not brought to court.

“Your worship, the witness that was supposed to be brought here from custody was not brought. The Investigating Officer (IO) informed me that the witness was not brought and indicated to me that the witness would be brought to court on the next date. Therefore, the State requests a remand,” said State prosecutor Carien Mulder.

The magistrate had asked that the case be finalised at the last hearing in 2025 but granted a postponement.

“The matter is being adjourned until March 2, 3, and 4 for further evidence. Both of you shall remain in custody until then,” said Magistrate Isabella Mlaba.
