High-speed Alberton chase ends with arrests and stolen vehicle recovery
Swift coordination between law enforcement and private security leads to suspects’ arrest and recovery of a stolen car after a dramatic freeway pursuit in Alberton.
A dramatic high-speed chase ended with the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of three suspects following a coordinated operation involving the EMPD, SAPS Highway Patrol and CPS Security on February 20.
Officers from the EMPD Community Liaison Unit were patrolling the N12 freeway when they spotted two suspicious vehicles, a silver VW Polo and a Toyota RunX.
When instructed to pull over, both drivers allegedly refused to comply and sped off, triggering a pursuit.
With the assistance of CPS Security, officers successfully stopped the VW Polo near the Comaro off-ramp.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered that the ignition had been tampered with and the vehicle’s original computer box had been removed and placed on the passenger seat.

Further checks confirmed that the Polo had been reported stolen earlier that morning in Kingsway.
Meanwhile, SAPS Highway Patrol officers continued pursuing the Toyota RunX, which was eventually stopped on Klipriver Road.
Three suspects fled the vehicle on foot in different directions, but officers gave chase and apprehended two of them.
A search of the vehicle uncovered suspected housebreaking tools and implements commonly used in vehicle break-ins.
All three suspects were arrested and detained at Alberton Police Station.
They face charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of suspected housebreaking implements.
Authorities have commended the swift cooperation between law enforcement agencies and private security, which led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.
