WATCH: Alberton murder-accused duo in court, State prosecutor absence delays inmate’s testimony

The State prosecutor tasked with leading the case against Schoeman and Bekker relayed her absence to the court through another prosecutor who asked the presiding magistrate to roll the case over to March 4, effectively delaying the testimony of an unidentified inmate.

The case against the Alberton murder-accused duo, Werner Jack Schoeman (accused one) and Delichia Bekker (accused two), returned to the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on March 3.

The pair is accused of involvement in the murder of Susan Gillian Murray, who lived in Verwoerdpark at the time of her death and was found dumped in Alberton North in November 2023.

Schoeman and Bekker face charges including murder, fraud, and theft. Bekker, Murray’s daughter, is accused of involvement in her mother’s death and was arrested days before Schoeman, who was caught hiding in South Hills.

At the March 3 hearing, the court heard that the prosecutor tasked with leading the case against Schoeman and Bekker is absent. Her absence from court was relayed to presiding magistrate Isabella Mlaba through another prosecutor who asked that the case be rolled over to March 4, effectively delaying the testimony of an unidentified inmate.

The unidentified witness is understood to be held at the Boksburg Prison on separate charges and was expected to testify on behalf of the State. However, the court has since been told that the inmate will no longer testify for the State. He will now testify on behalf of the defence.

“The matter is being adjourned until March 4, for further evidence. Both of you shall remain in custody until then,” said the magistrate. Schoeman and Bekker were sent back to the court’s holding cells.
