Kliprivier SAPS secure convictions in stolen property and trespassing cases

One of the two men has been sentenced to eight months in prison for receiving stolen property, with the court also ordering his deportation to Ghana after serving his sentence.

Investigators from Kliprivier SAPS have secured convictions in separate cases involving receiving stolen property and trespassing, reinforcing the station’s ongoing efforts to combat crime in the area.

According to Kliprivier SAPS communications officer Sergeant Ndhambi, detectives successfully concluded a case involving contravention of Section 49(1)(a), receiving stolen property.

In the matter, the accused was sentenced to four months’ direct imprisonment on the first count and a further four months’ direct imprisonment on the second count.

The court also ordered that the accused be deported to his country of origin, Ghana, after completing the sentence.

The court further declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000.

The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Chawana from Kliprivier SAPS Detective Services.

In a separate incident, Sergeant Makhoba secured a conviction in a trespassing case. The accused was found guilty and sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment, or the option of paying a fine of R1 000.

Lieutenant Colonel Mofokeng commended the investigators for their dedication and persistence in ensuring that cases are successfully prosecuted.

“These convictions strengthen community trust in the police and demonstrate that SAPS remains committed to addressing crime, regardless of the severity of the offence,” said Mofokeng.
