WATCH: Alberton murder-accused couple in court, accused one cross examined by the State

The State prosecutor in the case wanted to know why Werner Jack Schoeman (accused one) ended up living at deceased Susan Gillian Murray’s Verwoerdpark home before her death.

The case against the Alberton murder-accused couple, Werner Jack Schoeman (accused one) and Delichia Bekker (accused two), returned to the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on March 13.

The pair is accused of involvement in the murder of Susan Gillian Murray, who lived in Verwoerdpark, Alberton, at the time of her death and was found dumped in Alberton North in November 2023.

Schoeman and Bekker face charges including murder, fraud, and theft. Bekker, Murray’s daughter, is accused of involvement in her mother’s death and was arrested days before Schoeman, who was caught hiding in South Hills.

At the March 13 trial hearing, the State prosecutor cross-examined Schoeman on the circumstances that led up to his living in the deceased Murray’s Verwoerdpark home before her death.

“I was asked to move into the property because the deceased and accused number two (Bekker) had problems with Anthony.”

Schoeman alleged that Anthony was verbally abusive to Murray (deceased) and physically abusive to the second accused. He told the court that Bekker and Murray are the ones who asked him to move in with them.

Asked about the last time he saw the deceased, Schoeman said: “Anthony and the deceased went to a vehicle buyer’s house; they went there in the Lexus (deceased’s vehicle). Anthony came back to the house without the deceased and the Lexus. I inquired about the Lexus and the deceased, and Anthony told me she was visiting a friend. He also told me that they sold the Lexus.”

The mysterious man named Anthony is understood to have been in a relationship with accused two (Bekker) shortly before she got into a relationship with Schoeman. Anthony disappeared in 2023, and his family are still searching for him.

The case was postponed to April 7, 8, and 10, where Schoeman’s cross-examination is expected to continue. Both accused remain in custody.
