An armed cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery is currently unfolding on the R550 near Kingfish Street in Sky City.
Reports from eyewitnesses indicate a loud explosion was heard shortly after 12:30, followed by heavy smoke rising from the scene.
Residents in the area say the blast was strong enough to rattle windows.
According to information relayed by witness James Hook, individuals who arrived near the scene reported that the guard inside the CIT vehicle was unable to escape.
This information is still unconfirmed by authorities.
Witnesses further allege that the suspects hijacked additional vehicles at the scene and fled, while the vehicles used in the robbery were set alight and abandoned.
Sergeant Ndhambi of Kliprivier SAPS has confirmed police are on scene and investigations are underway.
Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the R550 near Sky City, as the situation remains active and dangerous.
