The EMPD arrested three men for allegedly stealing diesel from a sporting facility in Alberton on August 3.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa, Community Liaison Unit officers responded to a report from security personnel at about 16:30 that three men were allegedly attempting to steal diesel from the facility’s workshop.

“Upon arrival, officers found three male suspects who had allegedly attempted to steal diesel from the premises. During the investigation, officers established that the suspects had a 25-litre drum containing diesel,” said Thepa.

The suspects were allegedly linked to the theft after officers interviewed those at the scene.

The driver of a silver Ford Figo reportedly told officers that he and his accomplices had gone to the facility to collect two mechanics.

However, when the two men approached the vehicle, they were carrying a 25-litre drum filled with diesel.

During the incident, one suspect fled the scene on foot, while the remaining suspects were apprehended.

The Ford Figo allegedly used in the commission of the crime was seized and booked into the Alberton SAPS vehicle pound.

The suspects were arrested and detained at Alberton Police Station on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

They are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
