WATCH: Meals on Wheels successfully host their year-end function

Despite many challenges, Meals on Wheels has faced this year, the organisation took a step back in time and relived those challenges on November 22.

Alberton’s Meals on Wheels took time to reflect on the current year’s memories as they celebrated their year-end function.

The mission of Meals on Wheels is to serve senior members of local communities by giving them access to a secure environment where their desires are met and catered for and keep them engaged in doing what they are enjoying the most.

Meals on Wheels manager, Telana de Winnaar, said every life experience teaches us valuable lessons. While we can choose to ignore these occurrences, we must comprehend, process and draw lessons from them.

“A lot may happen in a year, so now is the perfect period to assemble the memories. This has been a tough year for us because the mission of this foundation is predominantly dependent on members attending in large numbers and this has not been one great year in that instance. However, to those who came we are truly thankful and may they be blessed in many ways,” said Telana.

Singer Gawie Malan and his family kept the elders entertained and the family also reminded the seniors about the importance of being thankful for life.

According to Gawie, you experience higher happiness and delight when you live a life of thankfulness because you experience increased calmness, lightness, and life satisfaction. These feelings are all linked to positivity, enabling you to have a positive outlook on the future.

“In everything, we do we should let God take the lead as he is the master of everything. I came here because the spirit of Christmas is already filling the space. I love singing for a large audience because I also get a lesson from the audience as we share energies,” said Gawie Malan.

During a tasty meal served to the elderly, they interacted with one another. While they exchanged life experiences, there were some sincere heart-to-heart discussions.

The entity wishes to make the centre home for the seniors and the manager requests locals to keep donating as they are a donation-dependent centre.

“As we close the year with this event, I would like to thank everyone for making the foundation what it is today. In this festive season, I wish to remind everyone that Jesus loves you. Stay safe and blessed,” Telana concluded.

VOX POP QUESTION: Regardless of the challenges posed to you throughout the year, what did you learn this year and what is your advice to everyone this festive season?

Gawie Malan, “The lesson I learnt this year is to always live in moderation because by exercising moderation, you easily learn to appreciate what you already have. My advice to everyone out there this festive season is to remember to practice the same rules and protocols you were adhering to the whole year. In that way, you will be safe.”
Tholoana Dube, “The lesson of the year is that you create opportunities; they don’t just happen and it is always okay to fail, but do not give up. My advice to everyone out there is simple, be present.”
Lorna Martin, “The biggest lesson this year is that your entire day can be changed by just one little, uplifting thought in the morning, so be mindful of what you say to yourself on daily basis. A word of advice to individuals across is to start acting adequately and stay safe.”
Telana de Winnaar, “I learnt that God can never put you in a situation that you cannot overcome. My advice to everyone is, there is always time to become the person you could have been, so start today.”
Vanessa Wrogemann,”I learnt that life will exactly be what you want it to be. My advice to everyone is that individuals should stay sober because lots of terrible things happen out there during the Christmas season.”
