Brackendowns CPF in dire need of patrollers
Interested individuals to be part of the Brackendowns CPF are invited to apply for the Brackendowns policing precincts by contacting any of their EXCO.
The Brackendowns CPF patrollers invite locals in the Brackendowns policing precinct to join them.
The CPF is governed in a way that allows a community member to actively take part in the fight against crime without a professional certification or prior experience.
According to Brackendowns CPF chairperson, Geoff Steyn, the CPF concept is to encourage community reporting of criminal activity and any suspicious behaviour, improved visibility to deter criminal activity, and sparked community involvement in crime prevention programmes.
“All recruited patrollers must complete a registration form and submit fingerprints for screening purposes. Fingerprints will be forwarded to the Criminal Record Centre for verification,” said Steyn.
Three sectors make up the Brackendowns Police Station. Sector 1 includes Brackendowns, Kliprivier Road and Ext Five. Sector 2 consists of Meyersdal and Brackenhurst. Sector 3 is Mayberry Park, Albertsdal, Leopards Rest, Alrode, Alrode South, Caravan Park and Thinasonke.
Being a volunteer patroller requires adhering to the following principles:
• Professionalism
• Accountability
• Dedication and commitment
• Honesty
• Transparency and non-discriminatory practises
The patroller is expected to:
• Participate in formal police-community partnerships, projects, and structured community safety initiatives.
• Know, understand and abide by the code of conduct.
• Understand communication channels and use them effectively.
• Execute tasks swiftly and consistently.
Currently, there are roughly 28 CIB patrollers registered with Brackendowns police. Each suburb in the Brackendowns policing precinct requires to have a patrol officer.
“We are ready and waiting for volunteers to join the CPF patrollers,” Steyn concluded.
