Over 300 title deeds handed to Palm Ridge residents

At least 300 residents of Palm Ridge officially received their title deeds after being homeowners for many years.

The City of Ekurhuleni and the Gauteng Department of Housing distributed more than 300 title deeds in Palm Ridge on March 31.

Officials urged the homeowners to safeguard their title deeds because they can be a wealth-creating asset and used as collateral when requesting bank loans or loans to cover school costs.

Given Sithole (48), a resident of Palm Ridge Ext 9 and the recipient of a title deed was ecstatic after getting his title deed.

“As the head of the house, it is my responsibility to ensure that my family has a place to call home. I have been staying in this RDP house for 23 years with my wife and three kids, and today I’m sure that I have secured a home for them,” said the elated Sithole.

About 2 000 title deeds have not yet been distributed to Palm Ridge Exts 1 to 9 homeowners who qualify.

With door-to-door visits by youth brigades, it is projected that 9 000 title documents held by the city’s Human Settlement Department will be given to their legitimate owners to ensure community members receive their documentation of ownership.
