Ekurhuleni introduces help desks to help small businesses with tender processes

Small, medium and micro enterprises were encouraged to seek help from the City of Ekurhuleni for tender processes.

The City of Ekurhuleni has set up help desks to help owners of small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) do business with the municipality.

The intervention will help, among other things, with tender form completion, supplier database registration, and negotiating the new 2022 preferential procurement regulations.

According to the city’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, the regulations of 2022 serve as a foundation for the supply chain management procedures used by the city for acquiring products and services from vendors.

The regulations of 2017 were replaced by the new regulations when they went into effect in January.

“We hosted supplier development workshops in March to educate local suppliers on the new regulations. The interactions also assisted in explaining how the help desks, which have been placed in the three regions, are going to function so that we make the tender process hassle-free,” Dlamini said.

In addition, he said a group of experts from the procurement office are on duty at their desks and available to help SMMEs with any questions.
