WATCH: Thousands of litres of water wasted in Verwoerdpark

Resident concerned about thousands of litres of water wasted in Verwoerdpark.

A water meter at 14 Erica Street, which leaked water for more than five days in Verwoerdpark, has been causing residents to lose patience with Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM).

Deon Benade, a resident, said the matter has been reported to the council, with reference numbers, but the leak just continued.

“Thousands of litres of water have been wasted,” he said.

The matter was reported on March 24 by the resident. The resident then contacted the newspaper for help on March 31.

A reporter from the Alberton Record went to the address on April 3 only to find that the meter was still not fixed.
The reporter visited the street again on April 14 and saw that the leak has been fixed.

Residents feel that even though they follow the correct procedures to report problems, they still don’t receive any service from the municipality.

The newspaper contacted EMM via email on April 4 with a video and photos attached. To date, no comment has been received. A response will be published as soon as it has been received.
