Reaching out to the elderly in Alberton
Ligstad Angels is extending a helping hand to seniors in Alberton.

Ligstad Angels is embarking on a mission to support the elderly residents of Alberton.
For the past 12 years, Ligstad has been dedicated to supporting the older members of the Alberton community.
Through their Friday morning social gatherings, they have provided a welcoming and enriching environment for these individuals.
The organisation’s commitment to the holistic well-being of older persons has been evident through various projects, such as regular meetings, outings, and opportunities for service.
Over the years, Ligstad has observed a concerning trend among the older persons in their programme. Many have become increasingly frail, while a new generation of seniors are struggling with loneliness and a lack of support systems, especially as mobility declines.
For numerous older persons, their children and grandchildren live abroad, resulting in infrequent visits or limited opportunities to see their loved ones. This leaves them feeling increasingly isolated and left to fend for themselves.
In response to these challenges, Ligstad is launching a new programme to further support the older persons in Alberton. The organisation is fortunate to have received additional volunteers who are passionate about working with seniors.
With this expanded team, they aim to identify and address the specific needs of older persons still living in the community, even those living independently.
The programme offers various forms of assistance, including local transportation services provided by dedicated volunteers.
Additionally, volunteers will regularly visit older persons, providing companionship and support. Some volunteers possess caregiving experience, having cared for their own loved ones, and are eager to contribute their knowledge and skills to benefit the community.
Under the guidance of Ligstad’s social worker, Alida Jooste, these volunteers will undergo continuous training to ensure they provide the best possible assistance as part of this program.
Ligstad extends an invitation to anyone with elderly parents in Alberton or to older individuals within the community who could benefit from the services of the Ligstad Angels.
If you or someone you know fits this description, contact Alida Jooste on 079 693 3666 or alida.jooste@ligstad.co.za.
Alida looks forward to hearing from you, and the Ligstad team is ready to serve.
