Residents warned not to throw foreign objects in drainage systems

With the recent heavy rainfalls experienced by the Gauteng residents, the City of Ekurhuleni would like to warn residents to be careful what they throw in the drainage systems.

Ward 28 Clr Thavha Maifala-Masebe warns locals to be careful about what they throw in the drainage systems.

This follows after the Roads and Storm Water Department of the City of Ekurhuleni responded to a burst sewerage pipe at Laerskool Orion Primary School.

The sewage spill in the school has been there for almost three weeks as the town has been experiencing persistent heavy rainfalls since December. According to Maifala-Masebe, the city’s department attended to the matter before and could not fix it because they didn’t have equipment.

However, on January 12, the city’s officials attended to the matter again and managed to solve the problem.

Residents are urged not to throw foreign objects like waste, grease, fat, oil or trash in the drainage pipes that are linked to sewerage pipes as these objects become solid in the pipes.
