Remembering John Mann
John Mann was not just a football enthusiast but a loving brother, son and friend.
The community mourns the loss of John Mann, a beloved figure known for his vibrant personality, passion for football and unwavering commitment to community service.
John and his life partner, Letisha Jansen van Vuuren, died on January 25 in a car accident.
John’s community involvement was extensive, with significant contributions to both Alberton and Kempton Park football clubs.
A true south boy
John was born on March 26, 1975, at Florence Nightingale Hospital. His childhood memories and his strong belief in living life to the fullest endeared him to family and friends alike.

Growing up in Alberton, he considered it his home throughout his life. Affiliated with Alberton Football Club for years, he played a crucial role, transitioning from a player to coaching junior and senior sides.
John’s community involvement was extensive, with significant contributions to both Alberton and Kempton Park football clubs. He generously shared his time and knowledge, often organising fundraisers to support those in need.
While John never married or had children, he was a cherished uncle to his three nephews, Jaden, Joshua, and Jamie. His close-knit bond with his family, including his mother Elda Mann and sister Bianca Mann and stepfather Chris, was evident in the love and protection he offered. Sadly in 1993, his father Jimmy passed away.
“Coping with such a tragic loss is an ongoing process for the family. We find solace in the outpouring of tributes, condolences, and support from those who knew John,” said Bianca, his sister.
The family encourages everyone to celebrate John’s memory by living life to the fullest.
Legacy of football
John’s legacy lives on through football, the beautiful game he passionately embraced. His emphasis on family values and respect remains a guiding force for those he leaves behind.

His achievements spanned the football field and the corporate sector. His successful career in recruitment led to the establishment of his company, JM Recruitment. Additionally, his passion for sports memorabilia showcased his entrepreneurial spirit.
“Remembered for his non-judgmental nature, commitment to family, and ability to leave a positive impression on everyone he met, John’s impact extended far beyond the football field.
“He generously shared his time and knowledge, often organising fundraisers to support those in need,” said Bianca.

One of John’s cherished memories was fulfilling his dream of travelling abroad to watch his favourite football team play in the United Kingdom. “His tenacity and love for football were evident in the unique experiences he cultivated.”
John’s pride in coaching the fourth senior league side to a double-double victory, winning both the League and the Cup game in a single season, according to his sister, exemplifies his dedication and love for football.
“His spirit, essence, and love for life will be dearly missed, but his impact will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him,” said Bianca.
